I just embarked on my first voyage to Antarctica with quark to experience the magic of the destination and raw wildlife and was fortunate to witness the awe inspiring beauty of humpback whales and three species of penguins ( Gentoo, Adelie and Chinstrap), fur and weddell seals, amongst an array of antarctic birds. An epic journey that undisputes quark as a leader of polar adventures as it made us ...
We were not able to visit or land in many of the planned destinations because of the Avian Flu, which was not mentioned at all until the trip was booked and paid for.
We only spent 2 days at the peninsula which is truly disappointing considering most days are spent at sea and the peninsula being the main event. The staff explained how more days at the peninsula is physically impossible due to ...
I traveled to the Falklands, South Georgia, the Antarctic Peninsula, and south of the Antarctic Circle in January of 2024 aboard the Ultramarine. This was a trip of a lifetime for me and one that I had always dreamed of. On trips like this, the dream and expectations are often too high, and real life can't deliver. Thankfully, Quark delivered! It was a fantastic trip, and I can't imagine a better ...
My choice of Ultramarine centred around the idea of maximising activities / landings during my time in Antarctica, and to enjoy comfort for what is most likely a once in a lifetime trip.
It did not disappoint. This was an exceptional experience and voyage, that may be the best travel experience I’ve had.
My trip involved a night in Buenos Aires and a charter flight to Ushuaia. While I ...
Absolutely amazing experience! It far surpassed our expectations. We chose this cruising option for the small ship adventure-spirit experience and we were not disappointed in any way. The ship staff was amazing - very attentive. The expedition crew was awesome - always made our outings fun, exciting, safe, and informative. Our cabin was very comfortable and perfect for the two of us. The ...
Fantastic experience. Amazing places, with hundreds of thousands of penguins and seals in South Georgia Island (a must) and Antarctica, with hundreds of whales along the away, among others. Top notch crew with non-stop options for science and history explorations. Wonderful people who love what they do. Very good food with tons of choices. Very nice boat with great first class cabins. Quark ...
This review is based on an eleven day Quark trip to Antarctica on board the World Explorer in late November/early December 2023.
First, getting to Antarctica takes a long time. From Toronto it took a total of 17 hours flying time, more or less due south, and two days at sea to reach the continent. Your carbon footprint will be very big and very sooty by the time you get there. If this bothers ...
We travelled before with Quark Expeditions and it was fantastic (to the Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica). This time (september 2023) we wanted to visit Greenland and the Canadian high Artic. The choice for Quark was easy because of our experience on the other trip and it was again excellent! Everything was fantastic, the room, staff, food (buffet lunch, a la carte diner with great wine), ...
We wanted to see Western Greenland, go through the Northwest Passage and also see Baffin Island as well as see the Arctic wildlife. Sadly, we didn't get to go anywhere near Arctic Bay on Baffin Island and missed a few other stops possibly because of conditions. We have previously seen Polar Bears up close but we have never seen Musk-Ox or Walrus so we were disappointed we didn't see any and also ...
We were fortunate to have amazing weather, so the planned portion of our cruise was excellent. Helicopter operations were possible every day, I believe, although a damaged part (one bolt!) meant the second helicopter was taken out of rotation late in the week. Still, every aviation-based activity except Alpine Kayaking (a paid extra excursion for a small group) was offered to every group of ...
