We were 3 retired couples traveling together. This was not our first Viking cruise. We have nothing but compliments and zero complaints about the Neptune or the Viking staff. The Neptune is a beautiful ship built and finished in the impressive and beautiful Viking style. The finish and attention to detail was impeccable. It was very quiet and smooth riding. We really liked the smaller size of this ship compared to the much larger ships of other cruise lines. There was no push by Viking to get one to attend jewelry shows or to buy expensive items from the ship. The ship has a really nice, large gym with multiple exercise machines, treadmills, steppers, recumbent bikes, free weights, rowing machine, etc. The gym was never crowded. We did not try the sauna or the ice grotto.
In true Viking style, the staff was outstanding and professional. Many knew our names (even though we never told them who we were) and who we were traveling with, our dining likes and dislikes and seated us at the same table each meal. Every staff member was friendly and courteous. The stewards cleaned our cabins twice daily. Laundry machines were available on each floor for free use by travelers.
The food in the restaurants was outstanding and included, and this is an abbreviated list, Chateaubriand, tenderloin (beef and pork), beef ribs, pork ribs, pork chops, steak, prime rib, lamb, whole suckling pig, duck, swordfish, halibut, tuna, salmon, dorado (mahi mahi), lobster, king crab legs, oriental dishes, Italian dishes, crème brûlée, tiramisu, lots and lots of desserts, breads and salads, assorted fresh fruit, 8-10 ice creams and sorbets daily, eggs, bacon, sausages, waffles, pancakes, hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. Other items or items could be cooked to order. The selections varied daily. Any food sensitivities and special dietary needs were given particular attention by the staff. Foods were labeled as to certain contents, such as dairy, nuts, gluten, etc.
We took the duck boat tour and the included motor coach tour of Boston. We have been to Boston several times previously so there was nothing new in these excursions. If one has never been to Boston, the walking tour of the Freedom Trail would likely be more interesting.
A waste of time. The included excursion had a nice stop at a cultural enrichment but the tour to the national park, which was essentially a stop at a gravel beach, was a waste of time. Everyone in our group agreed.
The excursion was a motor coach tour around Halifax. Pretty boring.
Loved Quebec City. In addition to the included excursion, I walked around QC solo and discovered lots of old QC that were not included in the organized tour.
The excursion included a motor coach tour of the different boroughs and a stop at a beautiful park and a former pulp and paper mill.
Boring. We did not enjoy the time cruising the open water other than the time we spent playing games with our traveling companions.
