We have sailed on Celebrity Solstice ships before but this was our first time on an Edge ship. It is an ultra modern ship in terms of design. All facets of the ship are well appointed, well laid out and very clean. It strikes me that Celebrity is targeting a certain market in terms of age and income. This is basically not a ship for kids or teenagers.
Food and wine are important aspects of a holiday for my wife and I and Celebrity excels in that area. Our favourite dining room was Normandie but it should be noted that you can order from each of the 4 menus regardless of which 4 restaurants you are in. We sat at table 106 most nights and our team of Nando, Sayed and King were fantastic. The service was as good as any that you would find in a Canadian high end restaurant. We also went to specialty dining rooms Le Petit Chef and Eden. Both are great experiences in terms of atmosphere, food and service. Alas, La Grand Bistro was a major disappointment. Certainly not worth the time or high cost. The Buffet is served on deck 14. Great layout, lots of seating with views of the ocean and consistently good food. I would like to recognize the food and beverage hostess who helped us book a reservation for Eden. I can't remember her name but she was a charming lady from South Africa who was working on her first voyage. Very efficient and friendly.
We found the nightly shows in the main theatre were all excellent. As good as any that you would find downtown in a major city. In fact, the theatre itself is a wonder to behold. The only issue is that there isn't enough seating regardless of which time you attend. This means you have to get there a half hour before showtime which really puts a cramp on your dinner timeline. This was one of only two major complaints we had with our Apex cruise. We were fortunate enough on the first night to see Duo Rio perform in Eden (6:30 & 8:30). This is a husband and wife team from Brazil that perform in the intimate atmosphere of the Eden bar. (I walk with a cane but it is an easy venue to get around in). This duo is simply outstanding. Great vocals, guitar playing and interaction with the audience. Such a warm and personable couple. Trust me, this is the hidden gem on the ship in terms of entertainment. Also keep an eye out for a show called Caravan, which only happens once on the ship (in The Club)
