Regent Seven Seas Cruises proudly claim to provide an unrivalled experience. There are two ways of looking at that as I recently discovered.

We joined the Regent Seven Seas Explorer on 12 December 2022 in Singapore for the cruise titled ‘Coastal Beauties of the Pacific’ which completed in Sydney on 29 December and on the same evening departed on a cruise which was to end in Auckland. A scheduled stop at Thursday Island on the first part of the cruise had been cancelled without adequate explanation which, while disappointing, was not an exceptional occurrence. What followed was exceptional.

On New Year’s Day 2023 in Melbourne, the first destination on the cruise to New Zealand, we received a letter stating, “Due to local regulations, to enter New Zealand navigational waters we are required to perform a cleaning operation on the ship’s hull”. This just three days before we were due to enter NZ waters.

Cabin Review

Perfectly adequate. Excellent walk-in closet with ample storage/hanging space. Very good bathroom. Comfortable bed. The seating/dining area was a little cramped.

Port Reviews

Darwin

Not a lot to see. Rainy season and it was very humid.

Newcastle (Australia)

A very pleasant surprise. A charming town, clean and well maintained. Seems prosperous. Excellent beaches. Plenty to see.

Singapore

Bustling and full of life, an exciting city state. Plenty to see and do. The venerable Raffles Hotel a must visit even if it is only for a very expensive Singapore Sling in the famous Long Bar.
