We were on the Sky in Juli 2023 on the Dominican Republic & Antigua cruise. This was the third time on this ship (2012, 2016) and we found her in good condition, better than anticipated after reading reviews. The ship was clean and looked nice. There were a few maintenance issues though.
When in the elevators in the Atrium, you can see the wallpaper is peeling off the walls. This is an easy fix. One of the Atirum elevators was out of order for the entire 9 days. In the fitness center there was constantly equipment out of order.
Overall we liked the cruise. We had great weather and visited nice ports. The NCL excursions are very expensive and not always worth it.
This was by far the smallest balcony stateroom we had ever had. Previous times we had an aft facing balcony on the Sky which is bigger.
There was no room to layout our luggage. Very few storage space.
Bathroom had enough storage space. Although the shower was small, it was good for us. Good water pressure.
Great roomsteward. From 14 cabins to attend to now 22 on a day, he did a great job!
Balcony was fine. The door (not a sliding door) had some sort of auto- closing, which made it close with a bang.
We did the Wild truck adventure&beach break with lunch, booked with NCL.
We are not very enthuastic about this tour. We did see some of the country side, but because of the terrible roads we were husseled and couldn't enjoy the scenery. The stop were we learned something about cigars and coffee was a real tourist trap, but given the circumstance of the population (poverty) we could live with this.
The beach was a true gem!
We did the El Yunque rainforest drive. Loved this tour! Only drawback is that we only had 3x 30min to explore.
We took the watertaxi to the downtown area. Didn't like the vendors.
There is a nice beach you could go to.
We did the beach tour 'Afternoon Beach Bash' and were brought to a nice beach. We had to pay $7 for the parasol.
We did the Historic Antigua & Beach tour, booked with NCL.
Very bad tourbus, with limited seating. We drove for an hour to the scenic lookout. After that we visited Nelson's Dockyard were we supposed to get a tour. Well we did get a tour, of 10 min!? To bad, because it is an interesting place.
After that we drove for 45min to the beach. Very nice beach. We had to pay $10 for the parasol. There were some vendors at the beach, but nothing to be bothered about.
We took the funicular to the viewing point. After that we walked (25min) to Charlotte Amelie. It was a saturday and very quiet.
We love GSC. We spend all day in the water snorkeling. This was our third visit and GSC is becomming more and more a resort. We don't like that. But as long as we can snorkel, we are happy.
