Sail Date: Jun 2023
Cabin: Veranda Stateroom

We chose this cruise because it went to places we wanted to see, and doing some online research, the Danube was recommended and Viking was rated as one of the best river cruise lines. We also took advantage of a free airfare promotion.

PROS:

- Ship was beautiful and well laid out; Cabin review in separate section

Cabin Review

Veranda Stateroom

Recommend a Veranda cabin - saw the French Balcony cabins and they had NO sitting area - if you want to "sit on the balcony" you had to sit on the bed.

Loved all the "extras" in the cabin - heated floor in the bathroom, "night light" in the bathroom (light under the vanity), soft closing bathroom door and drawers. Appreciated twice daily service, with replaced bottle of water.

Port Reviews

Bratislava

Guide for included excursion was awesome, and enjoyed the trip through the city on the tour bus. Also enjoyed walking through the town and visiting the shops.

Budapest

Our guide for the included excursion had a wonderful sense of humor, and the city bus tour as well as the castle complex was very enjoyable. Appreciated the "shopping" time in the castle complex and the opportunity to purchase locally made handicrafts.

Took the optional Budapest baths excursion as well. The waters were wonderful, and the provided "changing rooms" were nice. Would have appreciated additional information about all the indoor bathing areas - it was difficult to know where to go. Tried the sauna but it was way too hot!

Durnstein (Krems)

Included excursion was to the Gottweig Abbey - very interesting. Did not go into town at all.

Linz (Salzburg)

Our included excursion was on a day they were having a "festival" so we got to see an Oompah band. Had the Linzer Torte at a recommended cafe.

Visited Salzburg as part of a pre-cruise extension and it was wonderful. Thoroughly enjoyed the Mirabelle Gardens and the shopping area across the river. Hyperion Hotel was wonderful - full of modern touches including motion detecting night lights near the floor! Ate 2 dinners at the nearby Imlauer hotel - one at the Sky restaurant and the other in the "beer cellar" - both meals were excellent. Also enjoyed all the Sound of Music references and places.

Passau

Included excursion interesting, but could not view included church as services were occurring and were preparing for organ concert.

Vienna

Absolutely gorgeous city! Included excursion left me wanting to see more of the city.

Took optional tour to see Lipizzaner Stallions, which was wonderful even though we only saw them in their stalls. Tour guide had some "surprises" for us, including a private room at a beautiful Viennese coffee house and a visit to a church with a replica of DaVinci's Last Supper on the wall done with mosaic. He also gave us some free time to explore the area around the coffee house, and we stumbled on some beautiful buildings and churches in the area as well.
