We chose the cruise for a family get together to escape the winter in the northeast. The Norwegian Encore trip was the perfect itinerary on a modern vessel. Once on board it simply seemed that there are too many passengers than activity accommodations. The pool is very small, smaller than the smaller NCL ships we had previously been on. The Sun decks were always crowded and not very big. NCL crowed the pool deck with reclining chairs instead of loungers to maximize seating but it just crowded everything. Much of the space is taken up by a kiddie pool, and two water slides. Additionally, there are only two bars near the pool which always tendered a long wait. There is a pricey Vista Sunning area that takes up much space but is great if you have the money. There is no “large” entertainment lounge. Game shows that everyone loves on the ship took place in the Atrium which has very limited seating and poor views. It would have been nice to use the auditorium which only had shows on a few nights. The staterooms seemed smaller than others but with the balcony were quite comfortable. Great water pressure in the shower and a comfortable bed. The American Diner restaurant was a disappointment as it was only open on sea days from noon until three. We miss the old assigned dining, but NCLs freestyle dining was okay. The main dining seemed well staffed, but waiters were not very attentive and the wait for food was lengthy. Food was very good overall. The racetrack was not very busy (older crowd) and the water slides the same. There is a virtual reality area with simulation rides but the equipment and graphics were dated and after trying two or three many of us and others got motion sickness and it ruined the afternoon. The Encore has made me realize that when it comes to NCL, I will take a better look at the ship versus the itinerary..
