Review for a Caribbean - Western Cruise on Carnival Celebration

This is a Carnival-developed port. The shops are rip-offs and sell only cheap Chinese wares. I don't think my party was able to find anything made by locals. I also expect Carnival gets a (high) percentage of the profits. You cannot find any cigars for sale except in the duty-free store at prices higher than you'll pay your neighborhood shop. They have a couple other brands in the coffee shop and ...

Review for a Caribbean - Southern Cruise on Zaandam

We've been to Amber Cove two other times and we loved it....... however...... our 1,400 passenger ship was there with the 5,350 passenger - Carnival Celebration. Amber Cove can possibly handle 3,000 guests - but - it's infrastructure was completely overwhelmed when 7,000 people docked there! We do not blame Holland American for this issue - - but - - this was not the experience that we paid ...

Review for a Caribbean - Eastern Cruise on Norwegian Epic

Hoosier Travelers
2-5 Cruises • Age 60s

We went on a beach excursion while at Amber Cove to avoid the water park scene at the cruise port. It was a nice adventure that took us by bus through Porta Plata. The ride provided us with interesting sight of the region and the people of The Dominican Republic. The beach we visited was at a resort and was very picturesque. The excursion also included lunch that was a delicious local style ...

Not a lot to do at this stop. We did the waterfalls and water slide tour. Turns out it’s a cliff jumping tour and you can jump instead of slide! Unless you’re cursing carnival…. So that was lame. Cool sights on the excursion though. The guys didn’t give me change when I bought a souvenir so that happened. They just kept the money and left. ...
