About St. Lawrence Cruises

The Canadian family-owned St. Lawrence Cruise Lines has carved out a river cruising niche that uses a replica turn-of-the-last-century steamboat on two main itineraries: a five-night trip between Ottawa and Kingston and a six-night voyage between Quebec City and Kingston.

St. Lawrence Cruises Tips, Activities, and Overview

Who goes on St. Lawrence cruise ships?

The line mostly attracts seniors from the U.S. and Canada (with a small sprinkling of other nationalities) who want to sail with like-minded folks of around the same age.

Do I have to dress up on a St. Lawrence cruise?

A little. There's no dress code during the day -- comfortable, casual wear is the watchword. There are no formal nights, but people do dress up more smartly in the evening -- think sport shirt and slacks with a sport coat or sweater for men and resort wear (dresses, sweaters, slacks) for women. On the final evening, men generally wear a sport coat and tie and women wear a dress.

Is everything free on St. Lawrence cruises?

No. Fares include meals, wine and beer with lunch and dinner, and all excursions. Bar drinks and gratuities are not included.

What are St. Lawrence’s most popular activities?

The emphasis for St. Lawrence Cruise Lines passengers is on slow-paced, educational touring, that is to say scenic sailing interspersed by informative shore tours -- mainly gentle walks around places of interest. Generally, St. Lawrence Cruise Lines attracts more sedentary passengers and activities onboard reflect that. Shuffleboard and trivia games are highlights of onboard entertainment, and there is low-key entertainment in the grand salon in the evening.

Why go with St. Lawrence?

  • Exclusively sails the St. Lawrence Seaway
  • Particularly popular among Americans and Canadians
  • Aimed at senior travelers
  • Excellent regional enrichment and entertainment

Best for: Mature couples, solos and older parent/child combos

Not for: Foodies, young cruisers, party animals and anyone in a wheelchair

Interesting itinerary but poor cabins

The boat was small and cabins were miniscule, including two small beds with drawers underneath for storage (no closets) and a tiny bathroom which was a combined toilet and shower. Most of the cruisers were mature adults; there were no children on board.Read More

2000$ Waste

6) Deckhands were polite and personable, though one left during our trip, and my husband said there was a management issue, so...My husband and I booked on one of their cruises through the islands and while the scenery was lovely, it didn't make up for the failings of the boat.Read More
