Silver Cloud Antarctica 2024

And with food, it was nothing elevated nor luxurious, just very basic frozen cruise food…and the choices meant nothing the paid restaurant served up the same food as the dining room, cocktails were extremely basic you wouldn't even want to take a picture of it) Where do I even begin, firstly our pre-cruise trip hotel at the time of booking was mandarin oriental but later changed to w hotel… even as they upgraded us with my marriott bonvoy platinum status the room was still a major downgrade from mandarin oriental…W is basically a love hotel, sticky floors and distasteful decor (although hotels on itinerary are not guaranteed but it did not start out pleasant and definitely not as luxurious as they marketed to be) On our embarkation day we waited around 2.5hrs in the conference hall for the bus to their santiago hanger due to some slight delay, after arriving to their tiny lounge/waiting room at the hanger, it was super weird can probably fit only 20 people so most of us were just standing around packed like sardines, the plane looked nothing liked they advertised, no penguin livery not even ‘antarctica airways’ and the interior config looked like some cheap domestic aircraft with a worn fuselage, torn plastics and rugs, windows were extremely scratch, except that the pitch was deep and they left the middle seats empty, the headrest cover sheets were definitely not single use some had stains on them, for both leg of the flights the tiny vinegar dressing bottle cap were pre-opened, looked like they refill those bottles talk about hygiene I dared not to use them….Read More

silver blunder

We choose this trip as it was sold to us as a time saver, more days in Antarctica. We had one landing on Antartica peninsula and that evening had a crew emergency which took us back to King George Island where we started.Read More

Words cannot descibe Antarctica

At the end of a voyage full of superlatives, with strict biosecurity when boarding the zodiacs/going ashore, which is so necessary to protect the area, we awoke on the final morning to find we were cruising past Cape Horn, which had been removed from the itinerary prior to the cruise owing to time constrictions. It is full of anticipation and excitement and every day can change from the immediate itinerary owing to weather, wildlife and other factors.Read More
