Adventures by Disney Cruises Tips, Activities, and Overview

Who goes on Adventures by Disney cruise ships?

As you would expect, the passenger mix on most sailings is almost exclusively families, primarily from North America. Kids ages 6 and up are permitted, but it's recommended that children be older than 8, due to the nature of the excursions and activities. You'll also find multigenerational families sailing, so expect a wide range of ages.

On adult-only sailings, expect Disney-loving people of all ages, who appreciate Disney's attention to detail and fun activities.

Do I have to dress up on a Adventures by Disney cruise?

No. Casual dress is the rule most of the time, but the line does suggest business casual for adults at dinner, when they can dine at a more leisurely pace, separate from the children and teens.

Is everything free on Adventures by Disney cruises?

No, but a lot is covered by the price, including daily shore excursions, all gratuities, Wi-Fi, onboard kids' activities, evening entertainment and local cultural encounters. There is also unlimited wine and beer at lunch and dinner for adults, and complimentary select meals off the ship to sample regional cuisine.

You will pay extra for drinks outside of lunch and dinner service, as well as salon and massage services on the ship.

What are Adventures by Disney’s most popular activities?

Disney has designed activities for parents and children, together and separately, which allows the generations to enjoy travel without stress. Family excursions are usually in the morning, while the exclusively adult ones -- a long bike ride or hike -- are in the afternoons. (Taking one of the 20 adult bikes out for a ride is a particularly popular activity on most itineraries.)

With the daily sightseeing excursions especially designed for families, an activity like beer tasting at a brewery will include a soft drink tasting for the kids and commentaries will center on stories rather than lots of facts and figures. At some locales, kids will have their own activities, separate from the adults.

Separate dining and nightly activities for children and teens (each have their own dining space) also allow adults to have a relaxed dinner. Disney often follows the kids' dinner service with a movie, timed to end when the adults finish dinner. Kids also gravitate to karaoke, relay games, life-size chess lessons, video games, etc., while adults appreciate wine tastings and shows from local performers.

Why go with Adventures by Disney?

  • Kid-centric excursions and entertainment.
  • Mostly affluent, North American families.
  • Disney attention to detail and special touches.
  • Dedicated ABD Guides on every excursion.
